Quilt-as-you-go is a technique that eliminates a couple of steps from the typical way of making a quilt. You sew together the quilt top and attach it to the batting all in one step, instead of putting together the quilt top first and then adding the batting and backing layers.   I received a copy of Quilt-as-you-go made modern by Jera Brandvig.. While I have tried some of the QAYG techniques before – see video below – the book is very thorough and detailed. Jera not only describes the technique but she also offers alternatives to the basic block by block quilting.

While many quilt-makers use the quilt as-you-go method to make improvisational quilts, you can make your blocks look as abstract or as structured as you want, or a little bit of both. The traditional Ohio Star nine-patch quilt block is a good example since it is a structured block that typically requires premeasuring and perfect seam allowances /5().

I found this book so much easier to understand than other QAYG books. If you have avoided free-motion quilting or are still a bit timid, Quilt As-You-Go Made Vintage is ideal for you. And if you are fully experienced, you will have pure fun coming up with your own designs/5(). - Explore marlenehh's board "QUILT AS YOU GO", followed by people on Pinterest.

I’m a beginner yet, so it’s constantly challenging and fun and creative all at once. The one problem I have, however, with every quilt I make, is the fact that it is awful hard to machine quilt on.

"Quilt-As-You-Go" is a great book for quilters just learning as well as quilters that want to complete their quilts themselves. Using placemats, table runners, wallhangings, and table toppers to name a few projects, Gudrun shows you how to /5(9).

The quilt as you go method is a favorite among longtime quilters. Essentially, this technique includes any method of quilting which involves sandwiching pieces of the backing, batting, and top individually rather than making the whole quilt top and then sandwiching it.

I make mostly quilt as you go quilts based on Sharon Pederson’s book, Reversible Quilts – Two at a Time. Both the front and back are ‘patterned’ and for the Bloomin’ Quilt as you Go, you could make the backs alternating fabrics (checkerboard style) and have an interesting reverse side.

Meet Marti Michell, author of dozens of instructional books and your quilt-as-you-go guide. Marti begins by introducing the technique itself, and why it's so dynamic: When the sewing is done, so is the quilt. She also shows how to select and prepare your batting and backing to get off to a good start.
